Educational Research

SESRC-Puget Sound conducts research on the relationship of K12 education to higher education, employment, and more.

Graduate Follow-up

By matching to regional and national databases, SESRC's graduate follow-up work avoids the bias that comes from self-reported outcomes (surveys).

SESRC conducts the annual Washington State Graduate Follow-up Study and the College Enrollment Study for the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

In addition, SESRC has used these together with district data on WASL scores and high school transcript data to addresses a wide variety of questions about student performance, such as:

  • How many graduates are attending higher education institutions? What types of institutions?
  • How well do high school courses, grades, and WASL scores predict college enrollment, college readiness, college persistence, and degree attainment?
  • How many high school graduates meet the minimum requirements to apply to a public four-year university in Washington State (and which sophomores are on-track)?
  • What proportion of graduates are employed? In which industries? At what wage level?
