Disaster
Relief Volunteering, Anyone?
Thought about the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita lately? Maybe you
wished you could help, but you lived too far away, or you didn’t have the
time, or you couldn’t afford the trip. Well, now just might be the time.
New Orleans
is still in the recovery process and will be for some time to come. Research on
Hurricane Andrew ten years after the storm found deep-seated continuing impacts
on many households, as well as changes in the social landscape
of the community. What can you do? If you would like to volunteer for a day,
either before or after the conference, here are two places you can contact for
information:
1-800-volunteer.org
volunteermatch.org
At both sites you can do a
search on
New Orleans
,
LA
70129
and find a number of opportunities. If enough people are interested, IFD&TC
participants might be able to volunteer as a group. If you are interested in
being part of a group, please send an e-mail to Ann Goraczko at goraczko@fiu.edu
