Survey Sampling and Design

Design of survey projects and basic sampling designs are accomplished by the professional staff of the SESRC. The professional staff each have a minimum of five years experience in survey design and basic sampling concepts, and several have up to twenty year of experience. For complex sample designs, the SESRC relies on the expertise of sampling statisticians in academic departments at Washington State University and the University of Idaho.

Most telephone samples, both RDD and listed, used by the SESRC are obtained from a commercial vendor. We have found this to be the most efficient and economical way to obtain household and business samples. Additionally, the SESRC maintains telephone directory information for the entire State of Washington.
